The club are deeply saddened to hear of the passing today of Jimmy Quinn, a stalwart of the club over many years whose involvement with the club ranged from team mentor to committee member and staunch supporter over the years.
After coming to the town through his job in the army, Jimmy was a key part of the latter part of the successful Marlfield teams south senior successes in 1964 and 1970 before becoming involved with St. Mary’s through his sons playing underage for the club.
Jimmy was very much part of a number of key people who kept the club going in tougher times during this period, being at various times manager and selector to teams whilst also giving a hand at committee level.
In later years Jimmy was a familiar sight on the sidelines whenever the club took to the field, be it at juvenile or adult level, and you could always be sure you’d get a forthright opinion from Jimmy when chatting on all matters hurling, be it at club or county level. He took particular pride in our recent county minor successes which featured grandsons Jamie and Darragh.
Jimmy was a hurling man to the core, and his passion for the sport could clearly be seen by all of those he met.
Sympathies from all at the club to Jimmy's family and wide circle of friends, with daughters Veronica, Jacqueline and Clodagh, and sons Jimmy, Kevin and Brian and wider family to the forefront of our minds, many of whom continue to wear the St Mary's jersey with pride.
