Captain David McSweeney gratefully accepted the South Cup on behalf of his teammates at a rain sodden Swan Park on Sunday where the Mary's lads overcame the stiff challenge from Ballingarry.

The weather gods brought torrential rain to the table however both teams put conditions to the back of their heads and went at it from the first whistle. Playing with the aid of a stiff breeze, the blue and white team raced into a ten point lead with some excellent point scoring from around the field. At the break the score had St.Mary's 0-14 Ballingarry 0-04.

The chat around the grounds at halftime sounded a cautious note as Ballingarry would have the breeze and a comeback was expected and this was the case for the first ten minutes of the second half with five unanswered points causing panic for Mary's. Then came the rebuttal when two brilliant goals were flashed in to restore the Mary's dominance and from that point on the lads saw the game home to the delight of the big Mary's following.

Congratulations to all the boys involved, they have put in a big effort these last few months and have got their reward. Many thanks to our team mentors for their time, effort and knowledge afforded to the group.

Naomh Mhuire Abú!
